Chris Drury

Therapeutic Social Worker

MSc Social Work Practice, University of Nottingham

Chris is a registered Social Worker and member who has extensive experience working with children and young people both in the local authority and NHS settings for the past 10 years. Before completing a Masters in Social work Practice with the University of Nottingham, Chris gained experience working with children and young people in roles including 4 years as a Learning Mentor in a large secondary school and as a support worker working with young people ‘leaving care’ and at those at risk of homelessness.

Experience & Training:

Having qualified in 2010, Chris went on to work in the local authority setting in a child protection and Cared for Children’s team before following his dream to work within a therapeutic setting which he was able to do in joining an NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health service. Chris continues to practice as a senior clinician in the NHS and it has enabled him to develop a diverse range of knowledge and skills which enable him to work creatively with young people experiencing significant mental health difficulties in one to one and group settings.

Having completed training in various approaches including Person Centred Counselling and Dialectical Behaviour therapy and Mindfulness. I feel passionate that the therapeutic relationship is the most valuable tool we have and therefore my approaches to work with young people often mean that my sessions are conducted while going out walking, using role-plays or creating objects to encourage self-care and strategies to help manage distress. Working alongside and being supervised by the Specialist Clinical Psychologists at Nurture, ensures that all the work undertaken is formulation driven, evidence based, effective and of the highest quality.

Outside of my role at Nurture Psychology Service:

I can often be found playing with Lego or running around with my little superhero’s at home.  I’m also a keen baker and (lucky for the rest of Nurture) I can often be found in the kitchen at home making delicious treats for us all.
